Embarking on your journey in The Elder Scrolls Online? Here's a guide from iGV with 10 essential tips for beginners.
- DIVERSIFY YOUR ABILITIES AND SKILL LINES
As a newcomer in Tamriel, aim to include as many varied abilities from your Skill Lines as possible in your action/shortcut bar. Even unused abilities will level up alongside their associated Skill Lines as you accrue XP.
- EXPERIMENT WITH ALL YOU FIND
During your explorations, collect and try every armor and weapon type you come across. Unlocking a weapon's Skill Line for future use only requires you to equip and use it once. Similarly, by wearing three pieces of any one armor type (Light, Medium, or Heavy), you unlock its Skill Line. If you want to level up a weapon Skill Line, add one of its abilities to your action bar. Even if you're not wielding the weapon, it will gain XP and level up!
- PURSUE ADDITIONAL SKILL POINTS
While leveling up grants you Skill Points to unlock new abilities, there are other methods of acquiring points:
- Skyshards: These are blue glowing objects found in the wilderness. Activating three Skyshards awards you a new Skill Point!
- Unique quests: Certain quests offer Skill Points as rewards, particularly those with associated achievements.
- Public dungeon group events.
- Enhancing your Alliance Rank: Gaining ranks in PvP, such as Battlegrounds and the Alliance War, also yields Skill Points.
- DISCOVER (AND CONSUME) FOOD!
Food provides beneficial buffs to your primary attributes or stats. You can steal food if you're the stealthy type, but mastering the Provisioning Skill Line allows you to cook your own. Visit a capital to unlock Provisioning and use a fire to prepare your meal!
- CRAFT BASIC GEAR TO COVER UP
As a new character, you might not have collected enough armor pieces for full coverage. Armor pieces between levels 1-14 can be crafted immediately without spending any Skill Points. Start by gathering resources in the wild and locating a crafting station. As you craft, your skills will improve!
- STRIKE HARD TO REPLENISH RESOURCES
If you struggle with resource management (Magicka or Stamina), incorporate Heavy Attacks into your combat routine. Not only will you inflict significant damage, but you'll also regain some of your resources (Magicka for staff attacks, or Stamina for attacks with a bow, sword, axe, dagger, or mace.)
- EXPAND YOUR BANK AND INVENTORY SPACE
As your adventures in Tamriel yield numerous items, your Bank and Inventory space can fill up quickly. To accommodate your loot, talk to a Banker to increase your Bank space and a Pack Merchant to expand your Inventory. This service will cost gold.
- TRAVEL SMART!
Tamriel is vast, so make use of its varied travel options. Most major settlements offer Wayshines, and some have boatswains, carts, and Silt Striders. Remember, even exploration earns you XP!
- DECONSTRUCT UNNECESSARY ITEMS
Instead of selling unwanted items, consider deconstructing them at Crafting Stations. This quick method will not only enhance your crafting Skill Lines but also provide materials.
- AVOID HARMING THE INNOCENT!
To prevent unintentional attacks on innocent NPCs while practicing your abilities, enable the Prevent Attacking Innocents option in the Gameplay settings menu. This feature will prevent accidental bounties with the local guards.
